My Story
Greetings! My name is Gooni! I am a 6-month-old Labrador Mix Potcake* from Nassau, Bahamas. I came to the States with my Bahama “brothers”, Gerald and Geo. When I first arrived at E.A.R.S. I had a whole lotta learning to do about this leash thing. It took a couple days for me to get used to having it put on and then walking with a leash….it was a bit stressful. But now, I’m not afraid of it at all and am getting really good at walking on a leash.
My favorite thing to do here at E.A.R.S. is playing in the paddock with my “brothers”. We have so much fun running around chasing each other, playing tug-a-war and having sneak attacks on each other. This is when we run up to the other and steal the toy they are playing with. It’s a lot of fun. I also like when I run up to the volunteers and they give me tons of pets.
While I play well with my other Potcake “brothers”, we are not sure how I would do with other dogs (outside my Bahama “brothers”) and/or cats at this time. I do well with kids, but maybe not little kids as I do have a lot of energy. I will need a family that will be able to provide time, patience and support while I continue to learn my manners and skills.
My adoption fee is $300.00
Potcake* dogs are mixed-breed street island dogs from the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. These dogs are known as potcake dogs because the locals feed the caked remains, like rice, from cooking pots to these dogs. Potcake dogs are known to be loving, loyal and smart. They often express appreciation for the good fortune of being rescued, loved and cared for.
