My Story
Hi! My name is Gerald! I am a 6-month-old Potcake* from Nassau, Bahamas. I am a Labrador mix (but we do not know what I am mixed with). When I first arrived at E.A.R.S. the whole concept of walking on a leash confused me. I often thought I was supposed to hold it in my mouth and walk away from the volunteers. For the first couple days, I had to be carried to the paddock for play time because I had no idea how to use the leash. But I quickly learned to walk on the leash and that the human holds the leash…not me.
I have so much fun playing in the paddock with my Bahama “brothers”, Gooni and Geo. I’m kinda the leader of the pack shall we say. When playing in the paddock, we love playing tug-a-war with each other and running around chasing each other. Whenever, there is a volunteer kneeling on the ground, I love to run over to them and give them hugs and kisses.
While I play well with my other Potcake “brothers”, we are not sure how I would do with other dogs (outside my Bahama “brothers”) and/or cats at this time. I would probably do well with kids, but maybe not small kids as I am a puppy with a lot of energy. I will need a family that will be able to provide time, patience and support while I continue to learn my manners and skills.
My adoption fee is $300.00
Potcake* dogs are mixed-breed street island dogs from the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. These dogs are known as potcake dogs because the locals feed the caked remains, like rice, from cooking pots to these dogs. Potcake dogs are known to be loving, loyal and smart. They often express appreciation for the good fortune of being rescued, loved and cared for.
