My Story
Hello! My name is Geo! I am a 6-month-old Labrador Mix. I am also a Potcake. My “brothers” and I traveled to E.A.R.S. from Nassau, Bahamas (my “brothers” were recently adopted). When I first arrived at E.A.R.S. I was scared and nervous. I also had no idea of the concept of walking on a leash. My first couple days at E.A.R.S., the volunteers had to carry me to the paddock. But now, I am much more confident walking.
My favorite thing to do here at E.A.R.S is to play in the paddock with my Bahama “sister” Fergie (she came to E.A.R.S. a few weeks before me). We also recently became bunk mates and play mates. I love to run around with Fergie and play tug-a-war (sometimes she even lets me win). Since becoming bunk mates and playmates with Fergie, I have come out of my shell a lot and am getting more comfortable with the volunteers. We have been a great support for each other (we are secretly hoping to get adopted together, but we know that’s a big wish). I’m still a little nervous about going up to volunteers, but I’m slowly getting over my shyness.
My new family will need to have time, patience and understanding while I continue to work on my manners, skills and overcome my shyness. While I play well with my Bahama “sister”, we do not know how I will do with other dogs (outside of my Bahama “brothers and sister”) and/or cats at this time. I may do well with older kids, but maybe not little kids as they need to understand my need for going slow and patience.
My adoption fee is $300.00.
Potcake* dogs are mixed-breed street island dogs from the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands. These dogs are known as potcake dogs because the locals feed the caked remains, like rice, from cooking pots to these dogs. Potcake dogs are known to be loving, loyal and smart. They often express appreciation for the good fortune of being rescued, loved and cared for.
